Cobham takes off to Cue for Westgold
On Monday 19 April 2021, Cobham commenced flights into Cue on behalf of Westgold Resources Limited (Westgold).
Westgold is a top-10 Australian gold producer with its core gold operations located in the Central Murchison region of Western Australia. One of these is its Cue Gold Operation (CGO), focused around the regional town of Cue.
Cobham commenced flying for Westgold in 2015 to its Meekatharra operations, also in the Central Murchison region of WA and our contract is due to run until end June 2025.
The 76-seat Q400 Q Series turboprop aircraft will be utilised by Cobham for its FIFO services to CGO. The Cue aerodrome has a gravel runway, and in preparation for us to fly into the site, extensive runway works were completed to enable our larger aircraft with gravel kit capability to take off and land.
Westgold’s personnel had previously flown into Cue on a small 19-seater Beech 1900 aircraft, so expressed excitement at the larger, faster planes now being provided.
Cobham recently took delivery of its fifth Q400 aircraft as part of its fleet renewal program, helping it meet the growing needs of its future-ready mining sector clients like Westgold, who are seeking jet-like speed, highly efficient fuel consumption and low carbon emissions.
The inaugural flight of Cobham’s fifth Q400 will be for Westgold to Cue on Monday 26 April.
