Cobham awarded six-year contract extension to provide border surveillance

Cobham has signed a six-year contract extension with the Australian Border Force to continue providing border surveillance services. This extension ensures the continuity of fixed wing border surveillance operations for the Australian Border Force.

Cobham’s operation employs a fleet of highly modified surveillance fixed wing aircraft and specially trained mission crew providing coverage 24/7, 365-days of the year. The surveillance area encompasses Australia’s 8.2-million-square-kilometre Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).

Cobham CEO John Boag welcomed the contract extension as a reflection of the Australian Government’s confidence in Cobham’s consistent and reliable delivery of this nationally important service.

“Over the course of the current surveillance contract, Cobham has conducted surveillance missions and maintained an average contract performance score exceeding the contractual threshold,” said Mr Boag.

“We intend to continue delivering highly flexible, robust and reliable surveillance services and exceeding performance scores to ensure the Nation’s border security.”

“Cobham has been entrusted with conducting airborne operations on behalf of the Australian Government for more than 25 years. We are very proud of our contribution - whether protecting our borders or saving lives - every mission matters.”

Cobham Special Mission Managing Director James Woodhams said the contract extension secured jobs in South Australia and at its regional hubs in Cairns, Darwin and Broome, as well as with supply chain partners, many of which are innovative Australian companies.

“This extension is fantastic news for our incredibly dedicated professional team who have shown tremendous tenacity and flexibility delivering and supporting this service with the added complexity of COVID and interstate border restrictions.”

“This is an exciting time to be part of the Cobham team – and we are actively recruiting like-minded, mission-focused people to join us in providing this important service for Australia,” said Mr Woodhams.
